Indirect Evidence for Neutralinos as Dark Matter
نویسندگان
چکیده
From the relic density measurement by WMAP the WIMP annihilation cross section can be determined in a model independent way. If the WIMPS are postulated to be the neutralinos of Supersymmetry, then only a limited region of the supersymmetric parameter space matches this annihilation cross section. It is shown that the resulting positrons, antiprotons and gamma rays from the neutralino annihilation (mainly into bb quark pairs) provide the correct shape and order of magnitude for the missing gamma and hard positron fluxes in the Galactic Models and are consistent with antiproton production. Detectability of a subdominant density component of cold dark matter
Here we examine the detectability of collisionless dark matter candidates that may constitute not all but only a subdominant component of galactic cold dark matter. We show that current axion searches are not suited for a subdominant component, while direct WIMP searches would not be severely affected by the reduced density. In fact, the direct detection rates of neutralinos stay almost constan...
متن کاملParticle Dark Matter: Evidence, Candidates and Constraints
In this review article, we discuss the current status of particle dark matter, including experimental evidence and theoretical motivations. We discuss a wide array of candidates for particle dark matter, but focus on neutralinos in models of supersymmetry and Kaluza-Klein dark matter in models of universal extra dimensions. We devote much of our attention to direct and indirect detection techni...
متن کاملIndirect detection of a subdominant density component of cold dark matter
We examine the detectability through indirect means of weakly interacting dark matter candidates that may constitute not all but only a subdominant component of galactic cold dark matter. We show that the possibility of indirect detection of neutralinos from their annihilations in the Earth and Sun is not severely hampered by decreasing neutralino relic density. Upward-going muon fluxes in unde...
متن کاملParticle Candidates for Dark Matter: a Case for (dominant or Subdominant) Relic Neutralinos
After a short introduction on particle candidates for dark matter within possible extensions of the standard model, we concentrate on Weakly Interacting Massive Particles, and on one of their most interesting physical realizations: the neutralino. We analyze how detectability of relic neutralinos by direct and indirect means is related to their local and cosmological densities; we use simple ge...
متن کاملTheoretical Aspects of Dark Matter Detection
Direct and indirect dark matter detection relies on the scattering of the dark matter candidate on nucleons or nuclei. Here, attention is focused on dark matter candidates (neutralinos) predicted in the minimal supersymmetric standard model and its constrained version with universal input soft supersymmetry-breaking masses. Current expectations for elastic scattering cross sections for neutrali...
متن کاملIndirect Search for Neutralino Dark Matter with High Energy Neutrinos
We investigate the prospects of indirect searches for supersymmetric neutralino dark matter. Relic neutralinos gravitationally accumulate in the Sun and their annihilations produce high energy neutrinos. Muon neutrinos of this origin can be seen in large detectors like AMANDA, IceCube and ANTARES. We evaluate the relic density and the detection rate in several models — the minimal supersymmetri...
